I have imported the entries and comments from [livejournal.com profile] ardgour_trips into this new community, [community profile] ardgour.

I propose to delete the old LJ community in a while, unless anyone feels we should keep it around.

This is a public post, so everyone can see it - if you find you can't see the locked entries in the community (the most recent of which was about the possibility of moving here), then you need to join the community (should be a link at the top of the community page). Any problems, let me know.

Trains

Feb. 7th, 2016 09:19 pm
[identity profile] kht.livejournal.com
I just booked tickets for myself and [livejournal.com profile] pseudomonas. Does anyone want to co-ordinate trains and travel with us?

This is our plan:
London -> Paris: Thursday 31st, leaving 18.31
Paris -> Cahors: Saturday 2nd, leaving 10.24, arriving 16.23
Cahors -> Paris: Saturday 9th, leaving 12.04, arriving 17.38
Paris -> London: Sunday 10th, leaving 18.05

I note that the Paris-Cahors trains are cheaper if you book in advance. Our trains were 15 euro per person per leg (other times were 45 euro per person per leg). I think it's worth booking now before the cheap tickets disappear!

Music pdfs

Here is a link to pdfs of music for Tuesday evening:

I will print copies for you if you tick the appropriate boxes in the poll in my previous post before about 4pm tomorrow (if not I will assume that you are printing your own copy).

[Poll #1968117]

It looks like we are quorate (chorate?) for SATB, and recorder consort + continuo. I would like to keep things simple and stick to a smallish number of pieces rather than try to do too much.

Here is my approximate menu for the evening (open to other suggestions):
- a madrigal or two, possibly including "Now is the month of Maying" and/or "Springtime mantleth every bough" and/or "Brightly dawns our wedding day" from the Mikado. Probably SATB or a subset thereof.
- one of [livejournal.com profile] midnightmelody's musical theatre medleys (link here: https://www.dropbox.com/sh/tvwb0ztmyufsaiw/Y2tHTE7CLE)
- a small selection of pieces from the songbook suitable for ceilidhing (no obligation to play at the ceilidh if you don't want to!). [livejournal.com profile] atreic, do you have preferences for which?
- something that works for multiple recorders and continuo (maybe something from http://imslp.org/wiki/Category:For_3_players_with_continuo or http://imslp.org/wiki/Category:For_4_players_with_continuo)

A few requests:
- Please tell me if you have specific requests for stuff to play/sing (preferably with a link to a pdf), or if there's anything on the list above that you object to.
- Please tell me if you're planning to bring an instrument and haven't already told me on the previous poll (or if the information you gave on the previous poll has changed)
- Please tell me if you have access to a bigger/better printer than mine and would be willing to print some music and bring it with you!

(This post was essentially brought to you by the lovely [livejournal.com profile] midnightmelody because, having volunteered to make sure it happened, I decided to turn my life upside down on less than a month's notice, and have since been buried under a 'to do' list the size of Mount Everest).

Sunday is the Cahors trip.

Participation
Currently, I am expecting everyone except [livejournal.com profile] fluffymark, [livejournal.com profile] strongtrousers and [livejournal.com profile] wildeabandon. If anyone else has changed their mind, please let me know asap.

Drivers
I'm hoping that drivers who are coming to Cahors are all willing to drive: [livejournal.com profile] atreic, [livejournal.com profile] borusa and [livejournal.com profile] emperor.

Timing
We will fine-tune timing at Lamostonie. For the widest range of Cahors options, we’d want to leave Lamostonie at around 10am (for Cahors at 10.30), and leave Cahors at 5.30pm (arriving back at around 6). There's at least one driver and a few passengers who are attending cathedral mass at 11 and so will need to be there for this time.

If there’s a driver and some passengers who would like to do a shorter day, that should work out too. Since our drivers will have done lots and lots of driving the previous day, I will probably give them first preference in deciding timing.

Parking
There are outdoor and indoor car parks in the centre of Cahors, some of which are paid:
- Place Galdemar (outdoors, very central, F4 on map)
- Le Phareand Amphitheatre (indoors, central, F3 on map)
- Allees des Soupir (outdoors, ~0.5miles West of centre, G2 on map)
- De Gaulle (indoors, ~0.5miles North of centre, C3 on map)
Street parking is also possible (in principle) and free on Sundays.

Day Plan
Once we’ve arrived, we just need to be back with our drivers and cars at the decided return time: during the day we can split into smaller groups/individuals depending on what people want to do, and what company we want. It is very helpful to (a) bring your phone, (b) have phone numbers of other people, (c) stay in a group which has at least one phone so you can be contacted.

Finding things to do
There are many things to do in Cahors, mostly within a kilometre of each other. I have collated a guide to some of them (including a map, which is the wrong way up but hopefully will be the right way up when printed) and will bring 12 copies with me. You may also wish to download the Android/iPhone ‘Cahors Tour’ app, which has lots of information, albeit in French. It will ask you (in French) whether you wish to download several hundred megabytes of basemaps – I would suggest saying ‘yes’ while you are still in your home country.

If anyone is any later than me in doing these polls, and would find this helpful, here are my Very Biased Notes

I looked lots of stuff up when I was filling in the poll, I thought people might find it useful...

Home safe, pub still functioning. Sorry to those of you I didn't manage to say goodbye to yesterday before I rushed off, you are all wonderful.

Roll on 2014!

Hello everyone. Casting is hard. I have agonised over it rather as I didn't have enough parts for absolutely everyone who expressed interest/willingness to participate, nor has everyone got their top favourite part. Thank you for being willing to join in and apologies if I haven't been able to fit you in.

Read on for the cast list... )

And should be in your e-mail inboxes. If yours hasn't arrived, please give me a shout asap!

Apologies that the page numbers are all screwy on the .pdfs. Seems to be a Zoho exporting-to-.pdf bug, which I really don't have the energy or time to fix.

If you haven't already told me whether I'm printing your character sheet out for you (or your answer has changed), please comment here and tell me.

Rules .pdf should be with you by Thursday night. Everything else (including your ChronoGems!) you'll get at Ardgour. :-)

Lovely NPCs: I owe you all an e-mail, and more info about what I'm going to get you to do! There will also be an NPCs' guide and some other more specific stuff which I'll tell you about, and you will also be getting actually at Ardgour. In the meantime, if you have any questions, please let me know.

In a day or two I will make a (hopefully final!) post about the roleplay, including as much detail about what is happening when as I can give without spoilering you. :-)

Any questions, queries, concerns, etc., drop me a line. (Expressions of enthusiasm etc. would also be very welcome! By Friday I'll have worked I think as hard on this roleplay as I did on the last two put together, and I'm awfully nervous. I think it'll all work pretty well though. :-) )
[identity profile] randomchris.livejournal.com
Okay, have played through the score and it's all playable or fakable, which is a relief. There are a lot of intermediate bits and scene changes - does anyone want to do things over these? If not, I'll probably fake them and cut them quite short, and concentrate on getting the songs decent.

Feast!

So. Feasting. The plan this year, for those of you who haven't been subject to me nattering about it in recent weeks, is to go for a Middle Eastern themed meal. Unlike last time, when we had one great big course with loads of dishes, or the time before, when we had lots of smallish courses in a row, this time we'll be going for a more traditional three.

More info and short poll behind the cut )

Hello! I'm looking up trains for getting to and from Ardgour and having a little trouble. What kind of time should I be aiming to arrive in Fort William, and what time leaving again at the end of the week? Does anyone coming from down south have any ideas or advice on trains to choose or other things I should consider? At the moment I can only see sleeper services which seems a little odd.

Thanks!

Just a very quick note to let you know there will be another Ardgour trip in 2012, and I will be organising it (having checked with the previous organisers that I'm not treading on any toes).

I think these things tend to work better when there's one person who takes ultimate blame responsibility, but I will certainly want deputies of various kinds, so if you'd be interested in that, let me know. I already have a few volunteers, but they're mostly among the people I spend most time with, so different volunteers might be helpful from an avoiding cliquiness perspective.

I've been giving some thought to how to compile the initial invite list. Currently I'm planning on giving priority to people who have been on more than one Ardgour trip in the past, and filling any extra spaces and the reserve list with people who have been on one Ardgour trip, and partners of people who are currently going on this one. Going to part of an Ardgour trip would 'count' the same as going to a whole one.

If you can think of a better system, let me know.

A couple of people have asked me whether I'd consider other venues instead of Ardgour. The basic answer is yes, I'll probably hold a vote on it if anyone nominates somewhere that can take approximately the same number of people, and which they might prefer. You can do that in the comments here, or in a separate post, or by email.

I have come home with a large (A3) sketchbook which isn't mine. It is a W H Smith make with a black and orange stripe and two giraffes on the cover. It contains a sketch of Chris. If the person to whom it belongs would like to identify him- or herself I can arrange to return it.
[identity profile] ashfae.livejournal.com
Not bedbugs! Or fleas, or even midges. The verdict is dust mites, in which case it is just us and none of you should be suffering (not even the two of you who were visiting us). Apologies for worrying you. You may join me in a huge sigh of relief if you wish. =)
[identity profile] ashfae.livejournal.com
Soo, Ardgour types...er, have any of the rest of you been itching or had odd bites appear when you wake up in the morning or the like? We may (or perhaps not) have bedbugs/fleas/something, and suspect we brought them from Ardgour. Or alternately an experienced friend assures me that bites can take up to two weeks to appear (?!!?) so perhaps we should just warn Iolair to get an exterminator in. Or perhaps we're just unlucky. Hmmm.

Anyway, any of you experiencing something like this, or should we look closer to home (which is to say, at home) for a source?
[identity profile] casby.livejournal.com
I spent some time in Ardgour being worried that something awful had happened to Ducky - he is a white fluffy duck with a yellow beak and two yellow flippers with "I'm Quackers Over You" written on his beak.

He was with me when I packed, in London but at some point along the way managed to lose himself. I noticed on Monday evening at Ardgour, since he always comes with me on treks up the mountain behind the house and was nowhere to be found when I was preparing for my walk up on Tuesday morning.

I couldn't find him at Ardgour, or at home when I returned. He isn't at my parent's house either and no one handed him into lost property from the train or Glasgow central.

The only times I opened my luggage was once at Euston station, once on the outgoing train, once at the coach station and then finally when we arrived.

If anyone saw him at any point during the holiday then please let me know! :)
